After one of those days whan I had been sitting at the computer for too many hours, I was on the Site-Settings module intending to make a skin change, and due to over-tired blurry eyes clicked on "Delete" instead of update.  This was  portal/1 (the only portal) on my local system.  I tried to manually re-enter the record, but since I do not fully understand the relationship between all the tables, have been unable to get the site working again. I am getting a message which seems that my lnk to the portal alias table is at the root of the problem:  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm think you might be stuck, unless you have a backup. I'm not 100% sure, tho. When you re-added the portal record in the Portals table, did you make sure the PortalID was the same? Here's a hint: The first portal you ever create has an ID of 0. I don't think this will work, tho. I'm pretty sure all module instances are deleted when a portal is deleted.

So does anyone know how to fix this?  Unfortuneatly, I had to do a full re-install.

you would need a sql backup to restore it. When you delete the portal it deletes the record from the Portals table. It has a series of cascading deletes set up in it's foreign key relationships to maintain database integrity, so it then automatically removes any records for that portal from the lots of table (depending on what modules you have installed it will be 12+ tables).
