Hi,

I'm trying to install DNN 5.3. After going through the install wizard, features don't work because URL rewrite does not work on the server. The hosting company suggested to disable the URL rewrite in DNN. Can I disable it totally? And how? Simply changing from humanfriendly to searchfriendly does not help, because the searchfriendly method uses rewriting too.

Thank you,
Peter

You can do this through a host setting, which I believe controls the database, I am looking to see if I can find the specific setting you need to modify in the database to turn off friendly urls.

In the HostSettings table there is a setting for UseFriendlyUrls that is set to Y, I would assume you could change that to N and then restart the website to get DNN to load without the URL rewriting enabled.

First, thank you for answering me, Chris!
I tried it, and it works great!
Although I read some more about this URL rewriting feature and I think I should use it because it helps search engines and users. So maybe I will change my hosting provider, not the cool feature. :-)
Thanks again,
Peter

I would definitely encourage the use of the URL rewriting, it does some very cool things. Also check out the free URL provider from www.ifinity.com.au it does things even better from an SEO perspective.
