Hello everyone, I did a quick search and didn't get any results back, but I am upgrading our site from DNN 3.2.X to 4.3.7 and when running the install.aspx page, I get an error: "Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Common.Global'". Everything appears to be set up correctly in the Web.cfg file, and I am only vaguely aware of the custom modules that were used on the old site as the person who maintained this site has been gone for years and used this as a testing grounds for his personal stuff. We have cleaned up a lot, but still don't know what all is "standard" and what is custom, but that is a whole nother story. Anyway, I can't start over as there is just too much to replicate, so I have to "Upgrade" what I have. What are some of the causes of this error? Maybe I can take a look at them if i know what to look for.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike, be aware, if upgrading from DNN3 to DNN 4, you need to switch IIS web site using ASP.Net 2.0 instead of .Net 1.1 . regarding upgrades, you may follow my check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/AboutDotnetNuke/V3V4TippsTricks/Upgradedurchführen.aspx further upgrade steps may be DNN 4.4.1, 4.6.2 and 4.9.5

OK. That fixed that problem, but now I am getting an error: "Stream is not a valid resource file" Source File: App_GlobalResources/Locales.Portal.xml.resources. It is showing the erroring line as the xml declaration line.

Ok, i renamed the .resource files to .resourcef and that made the stream error go away, but now I am back to the Cannot Load Type DotNetNuke.Common.Global error. This is really getting frustrating.

you shouldn't need to rename any files. it looks like there is an issue in your web.config, which you need to modify manually! see my checklist mentioned above.
