Good day,

I want to use the "Form and List" module to provide my users with a list of external company contacts that we routinely deal with.  With this in mind I'd like to create (or import) a list of all external contacts including the company name, department, mailing address, phone, fax, etc.

First Question: Is there a way I can have a dropdown list of the handful of companies we deal with, and once chosen then can search within the listing for the chosen company for the desired contact?

Second Question: Is there a way that once they choose a company, the department column could only contain departments that exist within the company selected?  For example, "Company A" has three department, Sales, Marketing, and HR.  "Company B" has Tech Support, Accounting, and Legal.  If I choose "Company A", the departments shown are only Sales, Marketing, and HR.  If I choose "Company B", I only see Tech Support, Accounting, and Legal?

Third Question: Where can I find examples of Filter Statements for this module?  I am rather new to using this module (and DNN in general) and can't seem to find a good resource for how to create filter statements.

Thanks a bunch!

- Joe

1.) You can setup a "List of Values " of companies "Company1;Company2;Company3..." which will be rendred as dropdownlist

2.) no

3.) Inside User guide (http://www.formandlist.com/Documentation.aspx)

As a complete alterative, you could place the information in a spreadsheet and then upload it to your site. Then use one of the various reporting tools to access the spreadsheet and generate the desired report.

Several modules provided the ability to filter the data in a database - yes a spreadsheet can be used as the database - and display the results. For example, see my module SQLGridSelectedView at www.tressleworks.ca (sample display here)  or SQLView at www.dnnstuff.com

To see how to access a Excel spreadsheet as a database check out www.connectionstrings.com

Hope this helps,
Paul.

It seems as though the "List of Values" is only available within the data input form.  Is there a way to have a dropdown list of companies within the display of the list so the user can limit the listing to the desired company, then use a search function to ultimately find the contact they are looking for?

Thanks,

- Joe

Yes, there is a way, but this requires some XSLT coding.
