I have created one child portal with required content, page and modules placed under the page. then I exported that portal template say "xyz, template".

whenever I created another portal with xyz.template - I get all the pages, contents and modules placed correctly in newly created child portal.

Once I created a precompiled module package and installed it in 5.3.1 and also copied that xyz.template under _default folder and created a child portal. I can see all the contents and pages which are set in the xyz.template BUT modules are not there. I mean all the pages which are having modules placed are showing me BLANK.

anybody having any idea on this?

Do any of the pages/modules show up in this scenario, or are all the pages/modules empty when you try to use a custom module as well?

Hello Chris,

I can see all the pages as well as static contents (HTML boxes) that i added to them.

BUT - all I cant see is the module controls that I added to those pages.

basically what I did is:

[1] I have a portal in 5.1.1 I created a custom module and placed required module controls in required pages and then exported that portal template.

[2] I created a precompiled package and tried to install it in 5.3.1 and also copied that exported module template in _default folder

[3] then i tried creating a new child portal in 5.3.1 by using that exported portal template. I got all the pages as well as static contents (HTML Boxes) in those pages. BUT the module controls that i added in those pages are not showing (even not showing as added in those pages) - no errors. These are the module controls belong to the one which I created package and installed in 5.3.1

DO I need to explicitly place the module conrols again in those pages?

Did you install the Module onto the 5.3.1 instance of DNN prior to trying to create a portal from the template?

In item #2 you say you tried to install the precompiled package, and mention something about an exported module template? Did the install of the module work? I don't know why you're referring to a module template, if you have the PORTAL template then you should be able to use that.
