I've got a module that injects a div after the closing form tag - and this breaks the solpart module actions dropdown (the "move" action no longer pops its sub menu)

The strange thing is that it only happens if my div contains some text (even very simple text like "hello world") - if instead the div contains something else like an img, the solpart still works. eg:

< form  > ...dnn html.. < / form > < div >< p > hello world < / p > < / div >   ... breaks solpart
< form  > ...dnn html.. < / form > < div > < img src=etc / > < / div >  ... does not breaks solpart

My module needs to support DNN 4.x so I have to somehow solve this solpart problem.

Any ideas why text in a div that comes after the closing < / form > might cause this problem in the solpart actions menu? John?

This is the error reported in IE, but I'm not sure if it the cause or just a symptom:

Message: Object doesn't support this property or method
Line: 176
Char: 3
Code: 0
URI: http://localhost/js/dnn.xml.js

This is the message I get when I try the module in DNN5x - it sounds more like it may be the real error message:

Message: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.

Details: Error parsing near '_UP_Prog"));

Where it says "Common causes are ..." this is exactly what I am doing: using response.write in a httpmodule.  How is that breaking the solpart actions menu? It is well formed and xhtml valid.

Ok, after doing some research, it seems that response.write() in a httpmodule is a big no-no.

http://weblogs.asp.net/leftslipper/archive/2007/02/26/sys-webforms-pagerequestmanagerparsererrorexception-what-it-is-and-how-to-avoid-it.aspx

But I have seen other DNN httpmodules doing this before. I wonder if they figured out a solution, or if they just didn't notice that the solpart actions were broken. Time for more research.

Some more research shows an easy fix: just check the if the HttpMethod == "GET".   Since the ajax stuff uses POST, it's response will be unchanged.  And the response.write() code will continue to work exactly when needed (on every full page load).

I feel like I'm talking to myself here, so I will stop :)
