Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone has recomendations, I've had trouble finding a good UK based shared hosting provider for my DNN installation. I've seen someone recommend 3Essentials Hosting but since they are US based their downtime is in the middle of our day and I've had trouble with this before.

All I'm looking for is say 100Mb SQL server with, importantly, good remote access (so I can do my own backup/restore/import/export rather than ask support)  plus all the usual ASP and .NET/AJAX  stuff, with unlimited domains. I've had a bit of difficulty since some hosters say that since my DNN runs 10+ websites then I have to go for an expensive tarrif allowing that number of 'individual websites', others you have to wait for support to do DB operations which I'd rather do myself. There are some silly prices out there but I'm hoping for something around £10-£15 a month, but at this stage am not big enough and my sites aren't busy enough to need my own server.

Any suggestions for a DNN friendly hoster fitting the above would be very gratefully recd!

Many thanks

Rob

 Hi Rob

Some years ago I found RedFoxHosting.
They are a a fantastic .Net host. All the people I have ever needed to come into contact with know what they are talking about.

I run quite a few DNN sites inside a basic resellers account. No SQL size restriction but they use a shared app pool.
About 25 per month for 50 domains, 25 SQL connections.
 EG site: http://www.towerbrickandtile.co.uk/

My more "important sites" run on semi- dedicated hosting plan - max 20 sites per box. Own app pool etc.
These get cheaper as you have more but mine cost under £100 per year (x5 accounts).
 EG Site: http://www.royal-southern.co.uk/

All domains managed via Helm (really quite good) - I have access to my little SQL tools plus separate backup system.
All DB's are on a separate box.

As a "reseller" you can set up helm accounts for your clients.

RedFox do not commit you to a yearly contract  - it's one month.

Using these accounts I finally stated making money from hosting services.

AFAIK: In the UK this is as good as it gets.   I unreservedly recommend them.

Note: The semi-dedicated option is not advertised - just email (Warren) and enquire.

You may also want to look at DotNetPark.   www.dotnetpark.com -- based in England, but servers are in the US.  Bill in Euros.

They use DotNetPanel for their control panel ... which I find better than most others.

Hi Paul

Yes I looked at these people once.   The Major problem is Euro billing - the UK is not in the Eurozone.
Euro pricing exchange rates are very volatile and likely to be even more variable very soon given the massive problem coming with Greek bailout crisis and the German peoples sensible aversion to it.

I have also noticed that Euro pricing for US vendors is often a chance to tweak prices up.

Is it the Euro or the £? I frequently read in the new that UK is expected to be the next collapsing crisis.
