Hi;

Somewhere i was told that if i want to make a user (not admin) download a file, i should use the repository. So, I have added a repository module. It says that the files are being stored in a subdirectory called repository in the portals/0/ directory. (this is the default). I cannot see that directory from the files module or from a program such as AceFTP which allows me to look directory at the portal files.

My objective is to let selected users download files (pictures) into a subdirectory from which they will be displayed.

Any help is appreciated.

Hans

 Hi,

I think you'll find searching SnowCovered for this. I know of at least one module that would do the trick, Open Document Library of Xepient Solutions (recently bought by DNN to add to the professional edition but sadly not the community edition). There might be other modules out there that will do the same trick, just check on Snowcovered. Most of times you'll find there is some trial version or a localhost version that will allow you to test before buying.

 have you installed the module? if so, then go to the module settings page, setup the module options that way you want it, and click Update at the bottom. the /portals/n/Repository folder will be created.

Thanks Steve. Things seemed to work fine sofar. Only problem is that i cannot see the Repository directory from the Files module. When i go to some other FTP browser i have no problem seeing and even manipulating this directory. Any way to fix that?

Finally, is there a way to update a repository file without changing its name?

Regards

Hans

 On the file module, I believe there is a button/link to 'synchronize' the files, make sure you have the 'recursive' check box checked.

There are 2 ways to upload files in the Repository module, the built-in upload (which mangles the file name by inserting a Guid between the filename and extension), and the core Upload control.  If you use the core upload control, you can select from existing files on your server or upload a new file. Using the core control, the filename will not be changed and so if you upload a newer version it will simply overwrite the existing file of the same name.

To use the core upload control, edit your form.html template and change [FILE] to [URLCONTROLFILE] and if you have an image field, also change [IMAGE] to [URLCONTROLIMAGE]
