Several months ago I and a co-worker did an install of DNN 4.9 into a hosted environment with Cox communications. The domain name for the website wasn't pointing to the new hosted location so when the DNN install was done, we put in the backoffice domain of coxpreviewhosting.com instead of dlsengineering.com. Once the domain name was redirected to the new hosted site, all the pages had been created using the backoffice domain instead of the domain that needed to be used. Going in and adding dlsengineering.com as an additional alias is ok, but doesn't keep the status bar at the bottom of the browser window from showing the coxpreviewhosting.com domain for each page as it's loaded. Also, the dlsengineering.com in the address bar acts more like a cloaked webforwarded domain.

We've tried swapping the aliases in the PortalAlias table and the coxpreviewhosting.com is not editable.

We've also thought (but not tried) about doing a database search for the domain and replacing it with the dlsengineering.com domain and then deleting the coxpreviewhosting.com from the PortalAlias table.

Do any of you know of a way that we can correct this so that all the pages and the main viewing of the site will be using the dlsengineering.com domain and all new pages created will use the same?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Add the second domain name.  Logion to the second domain name.  You should be able to delete the first portal alias then, as long as you're not logged into it when you try.

Hi Jeff,

Great idea, but when you go to www.dlsengineering.com . . . you will notice that in the bottom of the browser window it shows that it is pulling content from coxpreviewhosting.com and then. . . if you click the admin button to login . . . again it pulls the data for the page from coxpreviewhosting so when you log in,  you aren't actually logged in via the dlsengineering.com domain. If you have any suggestions on how to get to that so that the other alias would be editable. . . I would appreciate it greatly.

It looks like the website is running in an iframe.. If you click 'view source' you'll see the html header and the url

http://0000qfx.previewcoxhosting.com/...

If you contact them directly, they should be able to change this. It seems they have their own way to handle the urls, but it ia an unusual way to present a finished website.

That will fix this problem.

Hi Nina,

Thank you so much for your response. I'm not an SA so I want to be sure that I understand what you are saying here. Are you saying that the hosting provider is resolving the DNS for this website in an iFrame rather than directly to the location on the server? You're not saying that there is a setting in DNN that I might have mis-set that is causing this, right?

I have never heard of a hosting company using an iFrame to display a website before. That would definitely be a most unusual thing and certainly would explain why we were not able to login under our domain name and make edits.

I really appreciate your response.
