I am having trouble doing what I think I can do within the portal aliases. I need the .org to go to the .com site when the .org url is typed in. I added the .org to the portal aliases, but am unsuccessful. Any ideas??

Thanks

Leona H

Leonah,

You need to ensure  that IIS is routing the .org url to the same site as the .com site.  On the request in given to DotNetNuke it will proceed accordingly.

 Paul is right.

You need to make sure that besides getting your DNN ready to accept incoming request with that URL, you also need to "route" them correctly.

Depending on your environment, that might be done differently. If it's your own IIS, you can play around with adding the other domain and pointing it to your DNN.

On shared hosting, you often need to dig into the control panel of your hoster to get the domain pointing to the IP address of your dontetnuke installation. On some popular panels like Pleks you need to put the new domain as an "alias" of the existing one for DNN for Plesk to get the correct setup.

Also make sure your DNS settings are correct. Even with DNN & IIS set up correct, if the domain is not pointing towards the correct IP, it'll never reach the site.

Thanks guys, I did get it solved within my hosting control panel at godaddy. They have a "forwarding" option for domains and I did it through that selection. However, I have now run into a weird issue.

When setting up the application at godaddy, the DNN wizard asked me to name a folder for the site. so now, the .com can only be reached via the www.XXXXXXXX.com/XXX . After the forward slash is the name of the folder DNN asked me to name during the setup. I cannot type in my .com url and go directly to my site. I have to add the forward slash and folder name in order to do so. I added the .com to the portal allas but no luck there either.

Thanks for help

I used GoDaddy as well. I was able to add forward my domain www.galecohenlmt.com to www.mulyca.com/dnn and, if I checked the block "with masking", the www.galecohenlmt.com name stays in the address bar throughout the session. I did notice two problems: (1) when the page is loadeding in IE, the status bar at the bottom of the browser still says "Loading www.mulyca.com/dnn"  and when a new user registers, the welcome E-mail still says www.mulyca.com/dnn.  I want everything to say www.galecohenlmt.com. Is that what Portal Aliases in DNN are for?
