Hi All.

I have following idea and want to know whether it is possible at all with the Form and List module or if it is only possible with a custom module.

Let's say i have two tables:
Table A holds all Department names of my company including costcenter-codes
Table B holds all employees of my company

What i would need is the relation between these two F+L modules, better the data behind it, as each emloyee has one relation to "his" department.

So when browsing to one specific department in the first module, the second module on the same page should only show the employees of this department.

In SQL this would be something like: select * from employees where department_id = xyz

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Kai

Kai,

sorry, this is currently not supported by the module (except by adding a custom control).
there are commercial 3rd party modules for this purpose, e.g. this one from my company.

  While Sebastian is correct that FnL doesn't support relations, you would be still able to solve this task also with FnL.FnL cannot support the relation during edit.

Generate a calculated column in your Departments table with a link pointing to the Employee table and Department name in querystring, for example
?department=sales.

You can then apply the filter department='[querystring:departement]'   to the employee table.

@Sebastian

Thanks for the info. But isn't this a valid request for the next version? And yes, i allready know about your powerful module, unfortunately i'm talking about the site for a nonprofit organization. My explanation was only for keeping it as clear as possible. So, if there is a little chance, we are trying not to spend money for the web.

@Stefan

I was hoping that i could do it with calculated fields, and you increased my hope. But i don't think, that i got your hints exactly. If it would not cause to much effort, could you give me some more details?

Anyhow, thanks to both of you for directing me in at least a direction to get my strange(?) idea done.

Kai
