I started setting a new development environment using DNN541. I set a new local site and installed the 541 template.
The site install went smooth and all worked.
When I started a new VS2008 project using the DNN541 template I had 2 issues:
1. the site did not started and I got the error message: BC30002: Type DotNetNuke.Services.Sitemap.SitemapProvider' is not defined.which refers to the global.asax file
2. I see the in the application bin folder there are DLL's and PDB's that belongs to other modules I developed in other DNN projects I have. That is really weired since I did not do anything in the current project that has to do with this files.

I tried that process twice and had the same behaviour.
I am trying now to set DNN 531 development environment and see how it goes.

Any ideas about this?

[edit] I set 531 and all is OK

1. check Host :: extensions, whether sitemap provider has been installed. 2. who copied those files in here? did you trigger an install from VS with a solution pointing to your directory?

Hi Sebastian,
1. I cannot check host since it is in error. I may try checking the site map before I try again the VS template though. (Can you think of any reason for the sitemap provider not to be installed?)
2. I did not trigger install from VS. The process I used is to install a clean DNN 541 version locally and  then separately  set the VS dev for a new module. The error pop up when I reload the DNN installation after I create a new module in VS (using the 541 template)

I use WAP for development and I think that no changes supposed to be made during the initial module setup in VS, right?

Using 5.4.4., running from Visual Studio 2010, I receive the same error (line 85 in global.asax.vb). It seems to me that a reference is missing, the question is, what assembly contains this type and where can we download it? Should it be part of the DNN core download?

As it turns out, my DotNetNuke.dll was continuously reset to an older 5.x version of the dll, because it was referenced from another (source controlled) directory which wasn't updated by the update process. Because Visual Studio keeps references in sync with the location you originally referenced them from, the newer version was overridden with an older version on each compile attempt. This is not necessarily the reason for the behavior mentioned by the previous user in this thread, But it warrants for double checking the version of the real DotNetNuke.dll that's referenced by your live running website.
