Thank you all for your replies and helpful suggestions. EUKHOST restored an old backup of the website and although there were then differences between the directory structure and the database (which wasn't restored) I think I have finally got on top of the problem and the site is now up and running again. Eukhost say they have tightened security for the IUSR account, but I will pass on your comments both about DNN version and also the server level issues. Cathal's description of what could happen describes exactly what must have happened in this case. I've always been very careful with FTP setup and local security but I'm surprised that eukhost are not up to date with OS patches, and I will pass your comments over to them. Once again thanks to you all. John
