I can also report and confirm that the upgrade to 5.4.1 has introduced some kind of new bug (as far as I'm concerned it's a bug because I've changed nothing else other than simple upgrade) that prevents new users from receiving the verification confirmation email.

Running the SMTP test under Advanced Settings of Host Settings returns the following error:

There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
The message was not delivered to the following address(es) -

and there are NO addresses listed.

to hard-delete a user, you need to remove it's record from several tables in the database: aspnet_users, aspnet_membership, users, userportals (records in dependent tables should be deleted by cascading delete.

regarding my user registration error, on DotNetNuke Version:
05.04.01 (26)

An error has occurred.
Error: User Registration is currently unavailable.

I see this when I try to register a new user (not from admin, or host, I mean when any user tries to register), I also had a friend from another location try , and the same happened

after a few tries, I login as host, and delete these test accounts I've been trying to make, and I get an error then too, saying

theres been an error deleting this user.

but it still deletes, right now, I would be more interested in resolving my user registration error(above)

and this all happen after I recently had my site updated to from 5.2. to 5.4.1 successfully too.

Since then I too have not received email notifications to my host email.

Thank you for your help.

I too am having the exact same problem. Any solutions?  (my SMTP Test under "Host" works fine. Feedback Module sends email just fine)

I can confirm after much research and testing that if you are having the following issues here is a quick fix until DNN team sort it.
If register link does not work on DNN Versions 5.3.1 and above go to admin/site settings and select the register page as not specified instead of user profile.

Also if like me when that works you get an error when submitting a registration saying
An error has occurred.
Error: User Registration is currently unavailable.
Then you need to go to your super/host user account and change the email so that it is the same one as in you SMTP details in the host settings area or the other way around as long as they are the same this resolves the issue. Unfortunately this is just a work around as if like me your client has full access and they decide to change the super user email address for what ever reason it breaks again.

Thanks and I hope this save some people some time.
