I've been trying for a few weeks now to upgrade my community edition to the version 5.x.x family of DNN.  I've tried following this upgrade path:

From Version To Version
04.09.05 05.00.01*
05.00.01* 05.01.04
05.01.04 05.02.03
05.02.03 05.04.01

Problem is, as soon as I go from 4.9.5 to 5.0.1, I cannot access most things on the ADMIN menu, such as the Event Viewer.  Then, I go to 5.1.4 and all my menu images break and I cannot access anything on the HOST or ADMIN menus.  I would really like to get my instance up to the latest 5.x version, but I cannot proceed.  What am I doing wrong?  During the upgrade process I get all "Success" messages and my database seems fine.  I've had to roll back to 4.9.5 once already by doing a full restore and I hesitate to do that again if I can get some assistance.  I'll try anything, just don't want to waste too much of my time trying to pinpoint the problems myself.  Thanks!
