Hi,

I have a question regarding the DotNetNuke providers. I have already used DotNetNuke in the past, but I've never changed the default providers, so I'm somewhat lost in that domain. What is the difference between authentication and membership providers?

Indeed, I'd like to use an external authentication system that would provide not only authentication but also profile information. I immediately thought of the authentication provider, but I'm under the impression that this provider is not used and the authentication is performed by the membership provider .I've also found some third parties modules that performs authentication without a provider, which makes things more blurry to me.

Could you help me please?

Thanks in advance

You will have to write your own authentication provider working around MembershipProviders in DNN source code version.

After a thorough study, I think I see how it can be done.
Thank you for your answer.
