Hi,
We're about to launch a new site and have run into a problem. We just upgraded from 5.2.3 to 5.4.1.  We correctly set up the SMTP server in host settings, then tested and everything is working as expected. However, whenever a host or admin adds a new user the following error is generated:

Error: Add New User is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: No such user here ---> System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: No such user here at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendEmail(String fromAddress, String senderAddress, String toAddress, String subject, String body) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(UserInfo user, MessageType msgType, PortalSettings settings) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.UserModuleBase.CompleteUserCreation(UserCreateStatus createStatus, UserInfo newUser, Boolean notify, Boolean register) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Users.ManageUsers.UserCreateCompleted(Object sender, UserCreatedEventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

The user is added but the admin account gets the email notification that the user account has been created. No emails go to the user email address. The same issue occurs when an admin or host adds a role to a user account. same error, same email result.

When a user tries to register they simply see a message that user registration is unavailable. Again, the admin email gets an email the user is created but nothing goes to the user.

I knew there were email issues with 5.3 and I believe 5.4.0, but I thought this was resolved in 5.4.1. Or is this something different. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks very much.

Hi I have exactly the same issue on all portals... It would be good to know if it is a known bug or if we need to keep looking for a resolution..

This is a known issue when there is problems with SMTP, the error isn't very friendly basically.

Suggest:

1) Try test SMTP again.
2) Try adding a user with an email address that is handled by your SMTP server internally.
3) Try adding a user with an external email address.
4) Try upgrading to DNN 5.4.2 (coming soon).

If (2) is successful and (3) isn't I suspect your SMTP isn't relaying to external email addresses for some reason (not a DNN issue).

@ mavera1 - Did you look at my last post (esp points 2 and 3)? If so it's a good idea to give us clear and detailed feedback. I suspect this is almost certainly your SMTP configuration, or mail server config.
