A portal on a DNN 4.9.5 install. The portal hasn't needed much updating for quite some time but client is getting active again. Client with administrator role cannot upload files to any folder though the permissions are the typical greyed-out View and Edit for administrators ... and no other users have any privileges. If we set "All Users" to have View privileges, or if we set another role of which client user is also a member to have View privs, then he can manipulate files in the folder.

I've done a complete recursive synchronization with no effect.

What is the fix for this? All of these folders have content (images and files) that will be viewed or presented as links on the web pages. Do we set "All Users" to have view privileges on each folder? If so - there are really a lot of folders on this particular site. Is there a way to set these privileges by means of a database script?

Hello Michael,

I had similar problems when I was running 5.0.0 and I never figured out what solved it.

I know that this is not scientific, but if I had the problem again, I would consider upgrading to the latest version and once you do that, and ensure that network service has full permissions on your folder, you might find the problem goes away like it did for me.

It sounds like you have enough experience of Windows permissions to know that you really need to check that the permissions have propagated properly.

Is that an option for you?

If you wanted to prove it as a concept you could take 30 minutes, quickly perform a fresh install of 5.4.2 and see how that behaves, it will at least let you know that you can access the folders on that machine.

Hi, Mark,

thanks for your thoughts regarding this.

I have installed DNN 5.4.2 on the same machine and don't see such issues.

I'm pretty sure that the problem with this particular folder hails back to issues in 4.6 something or perhaps a bit earlier. It got really messy ... files from different portals were bleeding into each other. That got corrected but in some cases permissions were left so that files were no longer accessible by users.

I was hoping that someone could aim me at a way to update the files table to ensure that the "All Users" pseudorole had read permissions on all folders in a given portal.

Thanks again,
Michael

Michael, I assume, there are permissions missing, did it help to grant and save permissions in File manager and revoke them afterwards?

Hi, Sebastian,

Problem:
Administrator could not upload files to a folder.

Solution:
Setting "All Users" to have "Read" permissions now allowed the administrator to upload files.

When the "Read" permissions were removed from "All Users" the administrator is still able to upload files and manage content in the folder. This has to be applied on a folder by folder basis.

So the answer to your question is YES, this corrected the problem, and thank you for the suggestion.

Regards,
Michael
