I have no idea why but removing favicon.ico from /website does NOT default to the .ico of the browser like it used to.

If I remove favicon.ico from website, I still get the dnn 16x16 px gear in IE address bar and tab.  If I rename it, same deal. If I replace it ... same thing.

I know this makes no sense.  Is there now some sort of default file buried someplace where if no favicon exists the dnn gear still shows up or something?

I've searched every nook and cranny for any favicon.ico from anywhere and I can't figure this out.

The dnn gear icon that shows up on IE address bar (or any browser address bar) and the one that shows up on tabs, I want to remove both of them.  How could it possibly happen that deleting, replacing, renaming the file doesn't work I have no idea.

BTW, I've tried purging cache, tried closing and reopening the browser, no joy.

Mike,

I've run into this before and as long as you replace the favicon.ico with your own it will change, sometimes it's just a case of waiting. IE is particularly bad for not picking up in a change for this file and I've seen it display the original favicon for a day or two.

Rick,

Well, it would almost have to be a DNN and or DNN DB thing then, right? IE will display what comes to it.

What could possibly delay the change?

I'll just remove the files to an Icons foler in the root like I have before then and wait for 2 days ...

Thanks,

Mike

Have you tried using Fiddler to see if the favicon is being requested by the browser or loaded from cache?

I am having the same problem with the favicon.ico In 5.4.2, "NO probles in 5.3.1 or below. If I put the url into the address bar I get the new icon, But go to my site and I get DNN icon. The same goes for teying to change skins on any of the Telerik controls incorporated into DNN no changes c an be seen, Tried everything empty cache, kill web.config then fix it, temp files temporary internet files, recycle app pool = nothing, no changes. As on alot of things in DNN 5.4.2. No gzip compression, heavy cache on memory. There is nothing in any portal _default /cache or 0/cache or /modules cache. What gives. Cannot change any of the dnn:DnnComboBox's or any Telerik controls that are associated with DotNetNuke.WebControls.dll even took your DLL apart and could not find any Telerik skining attributes. What gives with Telerik Simple skin on tag settings, Default or Office 2003 on ribbon bar and Black on dnn:DnnWindow, some consistancy would be nice, if you have this locked down somewhere in the dll's that would suck. The Black Window is nice and the rest should match or give us the ability to change skinning on these cntrols. Tried RadFormDecorator SkinManager InputManager calling the skin through the control, setting Black skin as default in web.config And why not dnn:DnnTextBox when your using dnn:DnnComboBox's in the same control or module? Add the ability to set the container when adding it like Oliver Hind's Ribbon Bar. Note if you have Control Panel by Oliver Hind installed on upgrade to 5.4.2 you cannot access Dnn Ribbon Bar and if you uninstall Oliver Hind and the go to your database and manually poit it to the DNN Ribon bar and the waite for the cache iss = days for it to show up. Love DNN fix it.
