Hi guys!

Ive got an old clients site developed some years ago now, and at the time we were limited to what modules were avail.

Back then, I modified the Store module (01.00.01) to act like a business directory (ie. no purchasing etc, just a nice category list and listings). Its worked well over the years without any major issues.

The client has asked me that he would like a separate 2nd "business directory" of the same vein, completely seeparate from the other.

My question is, if I install the latest Store module (02.01.36) on this portal - will it overwrite the older Store module (and potentially break everything), or will it install a 2nd instance of the module, separate from the older version so I can mess with it?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Cheers.

Hi,

The current version upgrade without any problem from all prevous versions. However, you shoukd backup your template files located in ...\DesktopModules\Store\Templates BEFORE upgrade, because your templates (and changes) will be overriden! Moreover, you will NOT be able to do what's your client need with the Store module because the catalog is portal wide. In other words you have only one data set by portal! To do this kind of business directory, you should use the Repository module. This is a typical use case listed in the Repository project page. The template engine is flexible enougth to do that.

We (team members) are Humans offering their knowledge, their work and their spare time FOR FREE to benefit the community. It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.
