I cannot get my DNN test site working externally ... ?

From the internet we get what seems to be a DNN specific html error:-

<my.url>/index.htm works and shows "hello world" (put a test index.htm in the \myDNNsite\website directory

<my.url>/default.aspx give the 404 error.
<www.my.url>/default.aspx same 404 error

yet everything works on the local machine (via the hosts file?).

Playing with .Net 2.05??? and .Net 4.0 ??? does not seem to make a difference.

None of this was working on this machine at all until I was advised to ass IIS_AppPool\DefaultAppPool to permissions ....

Does anyone have any ideas please?

TIA
Kelvin
