Rodney,
thank you so much again, you gave me a lot of useful information. Also interesting are what you call "css removers", even if I see there's activity around default stylesheets (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/F...) - this "cleanup" operation should help, isn't it?
And thanks to Steve also - we should be able to later see a recording of this interesting talk, like Steve tells.
Will ask for your help again when I start working on it! :-D

Regards,
al.

No problem - glad I can help for a change! I only have one portal on my site (another recommendation for any serious site) so there's no point in having a default, a portal, a skin file AND a sitesetting section. I will put all my edit css into the admin skin .css and all the rest of it into site skins. I highly recommend checking out YSlow to improve performance on your site with regards to CSS etc. (and PageBlaster to make it easy ;)

Rodney,
didn't know YSlow, that's great!!! I owe you a big beer :-)
I played with PageBlaster sometime ago, but am now using Ifinity URLMaster for its easy configuration (easy for instance to remove page extensions) and very easy to manage friendly urls - customers love it. I now see Pageblaster can
  • Automatically Merges & Optimizes CSS & JS files to reduce HTTP Requests
  • Compress and cache WebResource.axd files
which are very interesting things indeed (among others as well): will sure consider it for this project.
Did I already say THANK YOU?

I use PageBlaster and UM master together - they serve quite different purposes. PageBlaster is the single, easiest way to improve performance and boost your YSlow/Google Page Speed ranking - make sure you enable the Static File Handler so you get caching expiry dates on all images, js and css files - this immediately speeds up all requests massively on the second hit (reduces bandwith etc). Compressing CSS/Jscript also has massive space savings and is a single line (it merges them all together AND minifys it. And then of course it compresses everything using gzip. Plus there's loads of other stuff you can do with it... (like exclude default.css, custom rules etc)
