Hi all,

I am having a problem after I upgraded my DNN site from 4.9 to 5.4.1. The upgrade process went just fine and right after the upgrade I tested the site to be working with the new Ribbon bar and all. However, when I wanted to change the permission of ANY module, it will give me an error message regarding "The ID 'ctlModuleContainer' is already used by another control. ---> System.Web.HttpParseException: The ID 'ctlModuleContainer' is already used by another control. ---> System.Web.HttpParseException: The ID ...". When I upgraded the site, there was a tutorial that advices me to remove all dlls that start with DotNetNuke from the bin folder. But I thought since I'm overwriting the dlls with the new ones it shouldn't matter. Do you guys think that might be the case? If not, can anyone offer me a suggestion?

Thanks in advance...

Heindy

This looks like an issue with your skin/container. please check, whether it tries to assign a dedicated ID to any element.

Hi Sebastian, Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I am not a .NET programmer.. Just a CSS developer... Can you be more specific what I need to do? Thank you.

Heindy, you will want to open up the Skin files for your site, and container files, and see if there are any hard coded IDs in there. You can find the skin/container files in /portals/_default/skins and /portals/_default/containers

The files you need to look at are ASCX files. If you open these up look for that ID that is listed in your error message. Another option would be to remove the skins themselves, DNN will throw an error that the skin can't be found, but you should be able to choose another skin at that point.

Hi Chris,

I have tried opening up the skins and containers in Portals / _default and look for ctlModuleContainer but to no avail. I would like to attach a screenshot of the whole error but I do not think I have permission to do that in this forum.

Going back to the problem, I also have tried resetting every custom skin that is used on the site to be the default host skin (MinimalExtropy) and hoping that this skin might not have any conflicting ID with ctlModuleContainer but when I click on Module settings, the same error came up. Do you think I should reinstall all DLL files in bin folder that starts with DotNetNuke in front?

Thank you.
