Hello

Due to major hosting problems I need to resinstall a fresh DNN 3.2.2 site.

Because of the current permission/site hosting difficulties I am unable to create a template of the site's data/modules etc. but I need to transfer all the information to the new site.

How can this be achieved, or will I just have to bite the bullet and start all over again?

Thanks

Lynn

Do you by chance have a copy of the files and directories? A known good SQL DB Back-Up?

Provided that you have these, a restore is a snap. If not, it would appear it's a "start for ground zero" approach.

Hello cjsmitty

Thanks for the reply, I have uploaded a copy of my files.  As far as I am aware the database is ok, the problem is because they have put my site in the wrong folder it is causing havoc with my links, modules etc.,. I could ask my provider to make a back up copy of the database, for restoring.

I presume I then upload my saved files to the correct folder and restore the database?  Or is it that too simple?

They have informed me that they can't move the files and database without extra problems. But they did not mention making a back up copy to restore in the correct location, if this was possible, it would have been suggested. Or maybe not.

Thanks

Lynn

I guess I don't understand why they changed the path of your DNN directory, but what I really don't understand is why the links would be off, they should be relative links ("a href="/Default.aspx?tabid=54") not ("a href="http://www.mydomain.com/Default.aspx?tabid=54"). Modules also function the same way...

Perhaps you could say what went wrong to cause your host to move your directory...this may help myself and other better grasp the situation.

Hello cjsmitty

Thanks for the reply, sorry about the delay, in answering.

The main problem is that the originally  housed my site in a sub directory, as a result both the partent and child directory, pointed to the same IIS host header. This resulted in 2 seperate pages/tabs having the same url address, plus a number of other problems. Because of the  URL problem I am having difficulty creating a site template.

When I pointed this out I asked them to move the site to the root directory, they said that they could not move it, without extra errors occuring.

They have offered to put the site onto a newer server rather than change directory.  Although I don't see how this will alter things.

But I will wait and see.

Regards

Lynn
