Hi everybody,

I am completely new to DNN and just trying to install it. I have set up a database on SQL Server 2005 (not sure if I have done it correctly), and created my site in IIS. When I try to run the installation, first of all I get a message that says Auto Install cannot be run because the DotNetNuke Application cannot connect to a valid SQL Server database. When I try to run a "Typical" install, I can't get the connection to work. I have tried various names for "Server" and come up with one of two errors, this one:

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 15383
Message:

or this one:

System.ArgumentException: Invalid value for key 'attachdbfilename'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionString.VerifyLocalHostAndFixup(String& host, Boolean enforceLocalHost, Boolean fixup) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionString..ctor(String connectionString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionFactory.CreateConnectionOptions(String connectionString, DbConnectionOptions previous) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnectionPoolGroup(String connectionString, DbConnectionPoolGroupOptions poolOptions, DbConnectionOptions& userConnectionOptions) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.ConnectionString_Set(String value) at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText, SqlParameter[] commandParameters) at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText) at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteReader(String connectionString, String spName, Object[] parameterValues) at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.TestDatabaseConnection(DbConnectionStringBuilder builder, String Owner, String Qualifier) at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.TestDatabaseConnection() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.wizInstall_NextButtonClick(Object sender, WizardNavigationEventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Wizard.OnBubbleEvent(Object source, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.RaiseBubbleEvent(Object source, EventArgs args) at System.Web.UI.Page.RaisePostBackEvent(IPostBackEventHandler sourceControl, String eventArgument) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

obviously I am clueless, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sarah

An easy way to find the name of the database, the server it's on and the proper login credentials is to open up sql server mngmt studio. You'll get hit with a login prompt where you'll see the server name (make a note of it) and you can login (make a note of th user/pass you use as well. YOu'll see all your db's off to the left so you can see what your's is called.
