If I would like to use many domains on one "website" in iis, I would need to use script files to send each domain to its own folder. Not so with DNN: DNN is the script. Based on the URL, DNN decides what portal to use. In iis, you can just send all aliases to one and the same webroot and let DNN sort it out.

Winhost let you use a demo version of their control panel. I've tried it out. I've spent a couple of days checking this site out for hosting. When JokoHews asked about the use of his DNN aliases he must not have mentioned that it was for DNN or the helper at the other side must not have realized this feature of DNN.WinHost gives you seemingly all you need to run DNN with multiple domains. They offer a database in their SQL server, it's all there. Oh, there are some limits there too in the size of your database.

Of course, it's shared hosting, but it's real cheap. I'[ve read positive things about their response times, but of course, that may change over time.

The final limit on bandwidth per month for one account is 200 GB under a plan that is not advertised but mentioned in the forums. I'm not sure how far that will go in the future with a university portal and a scientific magazine with subscription. 200 GB per month is their final limit. But what if you start hosting 20 portals or more?

Thanks for the replies - and some good things to consider.  I really appreciate it.  I like the VPS idea.

Thanks,

Jay
