I have currently 3 portals hosted in one DNN instance. Two sites are bilingual (English and Khmer) and one is Khmer-only. Translating the resource files is a slow process. My knowledge of the Khmer language is very basic. I can read the script and figure out the words, but proper formulation of sentences is - well based on my western gramatical principles.

I have Khmer staff to translate and a usefull glossary of computer terms in Khmer. However, none of the Khmer staff has any experience with blogs or forums, and none has worked with a repository. So before my translaters can translate, they need experience with these new technologies. I have dedicated the host-portal, portal-0 for this purpose. Staff can practise with the modules before implementing it real-time.

The host portal also manages the translations. Now, I don't want to give translators Host or even Admin status. I have created a role "translators" and a tab "translations" with access restricted to admins and translators. I then added the languages module from the languages page. This works well except for the fact that the translators only can access the portal resource files.

Now, I can think of many ways to "publish" new translations. It means copying modified portal resx files over host resx files. The easiest way (I guess) would be to write a forms application that downloads any specific resource file through ftp, alows editing and then uploads it again. I am comfortable with forms applications, ftp-ing and editing xml files, while the program flow of ASP applications still escapes me.

The easiest solution would of course be to give translators access to the host resource files from within the languages modules, but I don't see how I can do that without giving them complete host access.

Of course, ideally, I would give translators only access to the Khmer host files, not to the en-US files and not to the portal-0 files.
