Wow! I hit a new level in the DNN community! One of my posts got reported! First time in 530 posts here and over 1500 posts in other DNN related forums!! Heck, I just might be the first ever in the DNN community to have a post reported! I know I've never seen one before!

What I don't understand is my previous post was much more smart a$$ed. In this post I said I didn't think Geoffrey was selling snake oil and that he probably had a good idea. So why would he report that particular post??? I guess the truth hurt.

Don't worry I'll not post in this thread again.

 Hi Greg

I reported you because you were trolling.

As you obviously don’t know what this is, it is about time you did. Here is the Urban Dictionary definition of trolling…

“Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent bystander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.”

And it gives this rather nice example…

Guy: "I just found the coolest ninja pencil in existence."
Other Guy: "I just found the most retarded thread in existence."

Actually what upset me was not only your stupid suggestion that my good idea be ignored but also your obnoxious comments on Joe Brinkman’s long and agonised apology in his blog for the fact that DotNetNuke 5.4.3 had been pulled, namely

“All I know is I'm glad I'm not Joe Brinkman.

“How did you get stuck writing all these "We F'd up again" posts? This is like the fifth or sixth one in 10 months or something. It's every other release - what a job! I did notice that they are getting longer.

“I vote that Shaun or Nik has to write the one for 5.4.5 - and Joe get's to write the announcement for the 5.4.6 fix release that comes out three days later. That way he get's to look like the hero once in awhile. Then you could have a lottery for who has to write it for the 5.4.7 release. Hey! I know - a custom DNN "dunk tank" type module where DNN community members get to pick who has to write the "We F'd up again" blog post for every other release!!”

Another Urban Dictionary definition of trolling is “the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet”. I can’t imagine the intent of your remarks to Joe, if not to purposefully antagonize.

What is remarkable is not that you’ve made 530+ unchallenged posts before, but that no one has called you out on it before. It is the moderator’s job. I should not have to do it.

The spirit of the Yala is all about making it safe to talk, that means being nice but not weak. If bullies, censors, trolls and flamers are not moderated, the quality of the dialogue will suffer.

I suppose I should thank you for nicely illustrating why this matters.

Kind regards

Geoffrey

Please accept my apologies as I said I wouldn't post in your thread again but you really didn't give me much of an option.

Thank you for the excellent education on the term troll.  I've been around the net since the beginning and before that I was involved with things called Bulletin Board Systems (1983 Atari 130xe - grin).  And in all that time I've never heard the term troll.  In an attempt to further my education I just visited several sites and the Wikipedia entry on the subject taught me that:

"A troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with the primary intent of provoking other users into a emotional response"

Judging from the number of emotional responses from several different community members in this thread I would say the author of the original post could be considered a troll.  Hey, I might not be an MIT grad and I am old but I do learn fast!

With regards to my comment on Joe's blog - I understand that humor can be a foreign concept to some folks. You might also want to take a look at my post in this thread that was written the same day as my blog comment.

I don't foresee a future for you in sales & marketing so if THE yala "should" not realize the type of profits you had hoped might I suggest a career in politics?  With the amount and quality of smoke and mirrors you are able to produce I predict that you would go far in this field.

10 years to develop a video...?

No Jeff (another Geoff!). As I said, "the Yala has literally had more than ten years and millions of dollars spent on its development."

Might be, but all I see is a video.  And not even a product video, a concept video.  When Microsoft does this it's vapor ware.  But even Microsoft doesn't take ten years to put out an actual product.  The concept is interesting.  But until there is an actual, demonstrable, product, it's not anything I can get that excited about.  And, no, I'm not interested in a WebEx session to show me the concept, that type of thing died with PowerPoint presentations to venture capitalists.  About the same time development on this started.

Jeff

I'm with Jeff here, not with Geoff. Fortunately they both spell their names differently. :)

I would not waste 5 minutes of my time watching some private demo after witnessing the waffling that has gone on in every response by Geoff thus far. If someone can't directly respond to the issues at hand you can be pretty sure they will be no different during a private demo. As soon as you raise a legit question you will be fobbed off with some "profound" reference to something else totally irrelevant and unrelated to the issue at hand.

It's called redirection and is a common tactic utilized by people who like to play games with others.

I've yet to see a thread go back and forth with petty arguments like this on the DNN forums. A shame... Geoff, you need to understand that many tech people use this site and marketing fluff doesn't do much for us. You mentioned "The proof of the pudding is in the eating". Well I want to see the pudding before I buy it, a taste test is even better. It's going to be awful hard to sell people pudding without letting them even see the product. Sure you can say it's the best pudding around, but I like to see my pudding before I buy it.
