Just reported a bug (http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/V...) any ideas for a work-around/fix???

MODERATOR EDIT: I've made the subject more discriptive and am moving this post to the Administration and Configuration forum where it should get more exposure.

I posted a comment in Gemini, but honestly I don't even know how there can be a work around here. This is always how DotNetNuke has behaved (it has no idea where you are trying to access, only alternative is to throw a not found 404 error from what I see).

are you saying that redirecting from www.domain1.com to www.domain2.com is by design????

dnn knows that i'm trying to access a page on domain1, why would it redirect me to domain2 if the page is not found???

thank you.

Chris, I don't think you understood the problem.

Please do the following:

go to http://www.mitchelsellers.com/
change url to http://www.mitchelsellers.com/asdfasf/Default.aspx
you'll end up at http://www.icgportals.com/

The alias DOES EXIST, the page doesn't. Why wouldn't it just redirect me to the home page (or any other page) on the SAME DOMAIN ???

No, I am not saying it is by design I am saying this is how it has worked for years (I am not the one who designed it). When thinking about how this should be handled, you must consider that domain1.com may have multiple child portal aliases, as well as domain2.com. To make this clear, lets say I have 6 portals (assume the ID is the number next to them, 1-6):
  1. Domain1.com
  2. Domain1.com/MyPortal
  3. Domain1.com/AnotherPortal
  4. Domain2.com
  5. Domain2.com/MyPortal
  6. Domain2.com/AnotherPortal
Now, if a user types in Domain1.com/SomeRandomOne/Default.aspx, which portal should it be directed to (1,2,3)? No matter which one you pick, it is technically wrong is it not? I do see why you may think it should stick to something based on the domain but in any case it is still wrong. I also find the scenario you put forth somewhat unlikely considering the only way this occurs is if the user also types Default.aspx after the /SomeRandomOne/.
