Hi Guys
just a quick one, I'm trying to install DNN 3.2.2 onto a laptop running XP pro with MSDE 2000 3a setup msde from command prompt using msde\setup.exe SAPWD=test, load DNN into directory DNN set virtual directory in IIS, use DbaMgr2K to check SQL server running set database as dotnetnuke uid=sa password=test
everything looks to be running have verified that sql is running checked database has correct permissions set to sa all good to go, checked have .net framework loaded and service pack 1.1

run the localhost/1 (dnn virtual directory) starts to installthen hangs i get the DNN logo on screen with this error message

Error installing DotNetNuke
Current Assebly Version: 03.02.02
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connection string for sqldataprovider

the above tells me that sql not running, but i get the icon in the corner to say it's running i can connect using the DbsMgr2k program running locally on the laptop

any suggestions accepted
thanks
Pat

Double check that MSDE is running under control panel->administrative tools->services. The service name will look like MSSQL$instancename i.e. if you called your instance test, then it will be called MSSQL$test.

If it is running, please post your connectionstring (asterisk out any password's obviously), and the name of the service, frequenetly people running MSDE do not realise they're using an instanced name and incorrectly supply the details i.e. have server=myserver and not server=myserver/instancename

Hi Cathal
I've set it up the way i have done sooooo many times with win2k
instance is set MSSQL in services, not worried about passwords as this is a test platform on a laptop, the control manager at the bottom right of screen indicates it's running, services indicates it's running, was installed with the following  c:\MSDERelA\setup.exe SAPWD=test

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=dotnetnuke;uid=sa;pwd=test;" />
DbaMgr2k can connect to it, add databases, and drop them without any issues
Just keep getting , IE starts with error message given earlier

hope this helps, Thanks
Pat

Pat,

can you check that your OS has the latest service pack installed. .net requires a fairly recent version of MDAC to connect to sql server, as far as I remember you have to have SP3 installed otherwise it can't connect. Another thing to try, is to specify the port number, just in case that's a problem -i've seen cases where .net suddenly requires a port to be appended, after various patches have been installed e.g. to force it to use 1433 seperate it from the servername with a comma e.g

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local),1433;Database=dotnetnuke;uid=sa;pwd=test;" />

Cathal
system was fully service packed, but have rechecked nothimg left to download from the update site, have changed as suggested  ( (local),1433 )now getting different error,remembering that this is a local instalation using MSDE3a, did try to load VBexpress but couldn't get it running on this laptop, so gave up and uninstalled it, was getting ready to try DNN 4xx on the laptop and learning to make simple modules, checking through the system looks like VB express didn't uninstall correctly i'll try a reinstalation then remove it again see if that makes any difference

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)
