Hi all,

All night I spent backing up and minutes ago I thought I did a successful upgrade from 4.9.0 to 5.4.4. The upgrading went fine or at least the script/log said so. But it seem to have done a fresh install instead of an upgrade. Has anyone encountered this?

Thanks in advance.

Did you use the 5.4.4 Upgrade or Install package?

Did you allow DotNetNuke to automatically make changes to your existing web.config or did you try to manually modify the web.config file included in the new install package or that you might have created by renaming release.config from the upgrade package to web.config? It is best to let DotNetNuke make any web.config changes for you - which is done automatically as the default.

If you have access to your database, verify the the core tables - such as Modules -  have kept the same objectQualifier prefix that was used previously and that another set of tables (with no objectQualifier prefix or a different prefix) did not get created.

Hi William, You are exactly right. I checked out the web.config and realized that I forgot to save it after editing the connections string section. DNN installed itself into the default database. Oops. :)

please use the upgrade package, when upgrading from a previous version (database.mdf and web.config are excluded from this package to prevent issues like this).

When upgrading into 5.4.4 I encountered this error: System.TypeLoadException: Method 'ExecuteSQL' in type 'DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider' from assembly 'DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider, Version=5.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' does not have an implementation. Please give me some advice to fix this. By the way, when I change the app to debuging mode, the error change and point to the file Global.asax.vb on line 72: ComponentFactory.InstallComponents(New ProviderInstaller("data", GetType(DotNetNuke.Data.DataProvider))) When I commented this, it changed to non object reference error. Please advice.
