There seem to be so many conflicting posts in the forums about what I should do. This is where I'm at:

I presumed that UK (en-gb) would be a fairly commonly used localisation (localization [sic]), so it would just be there waiting for me to download. But the page I think it would be on contains links to various language packs users have written, all for various DNN versions up to, & not including 5.x.x. I ask myself, should I install one of them? If so, which one?

Then I find various forum postings suggesting I don't need one for the UK, but instead that I should simply rename the US one, or to change some .xml files to it thinks the US one is for UK?

Now let's be clear about what I need. I'm not expecting anything to be 'translated', but I ABSOLUTELY MUST have the dates shown correctly, as depending on the month in question, it's not possible to see whether a date is in US or UK format - is 12/7/2010 the 12th July 2010 (correct in UK) or 7th December 2010 (correct in US), & currency shown as £ rather than $. In addition it would rather be nice is people were prompted to UK style address - Town/City, County & Post Code, rather than City, State & Zip Code. Finally it would be quite cool if error & help messages provided by the DNN system used British spelling rather than American.

Whilst my new DNN site is not yet live, I have put q fair amount of work into it, & having already completely screwed it up once (during an upgrade) & had to start again (I had all the content, so it was only install, configure, then copy & paste), I'm keen not to repeat this again.

So please could someone explain exactly what I need to do so that my site (portal & host) only have British English (en-gb) settings throughout?

Thanks.

Apologies for the duplicate postings - DNN reported an error when I submitted it, hence I submitted it again, & again... Should have checked first! Let's use this one - I'll put a note on the other two....

Hi Paul, - go to languages in admin menu - add "English (United Kingdom)" - go to Site Settings in admin menu - switch portal default language to "English (UK)" - Go back to languages module - disable English (US) - go to your user profile -select "English UK" as preferred language It should now work as expected.

I'm using version DNN 05.04.02 and following your instructions to enable the uk language pack as my portal's default.  However after adding the language pack (no problem) I go to the site settings and change the language to English (United Kingdom) but when I update the site it just reloads the page and the language pack is back to the US version... Where in the DNN Database can i set the default language?  Upgrading the site at this point could cause massive problems if anything wasn't copied over.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Hello Paul,

We do provide English Language Packs that may suit your need of localisation (SIC). We have updated versions up to DNN v5.2.3 and then we have been wondering on which of the following versions get to work again ;-) perhaps you may suggest your preference :-)

I hope you find this of help, you will not only see your dates and currency in the correct format but you will also read British spelling all around your DNN installation. And, last but not least, all text resources have been proof-read by professionals.

Saludos!
