Generally something like this occurs because the SMTP doesn't allow relaying for the domain in question. As you might try changing the from/reply address in the newsletter that you are sending and see if that makes a difference. Can you check things on the SMTP side as well to see if there are any logs?

I have used various emails in all the fields in different orders, from different domains. It does not seem to matter. What I do find odd is that everytime I do this I receive this SMTP test email. Why is that?

I am not requesting it...

That I can't answer, my install is doing it to, I need to dig into code to figure out why.

Chris,

I am running DNN 5.4.4 and this seems to be affecting every single instance of DNN we have deployed... I also set the auth. to basic instead of anonymous. Just to check... no luck.

I also set in the mail server to make sure that the server's ip is white listed and is allowed to relay. Still no go. I think you are right - this has to be a code issue on the framework.

I hope you guys get a 5.4.5 out for this soon. I am glad you are seeing it though - it was hard for me to explain. Thanks.

Sorry, when I said I'm seeing it to, I was referring to the test SMTP email. I tested emails the other day and the newsletter functionality worked for me.

What else can cause this then? I have tried multiple configurations as I have stated and the test SMTP message comes through. To verify... is there any info in the body of the email? All I get when I receive these tests are a blank email with a subject line.

Our email servers are working fine and there does not seem to be any errors... I have tested multiple sites through different instances and they all have issues sending newsletters... how can this be if the SMTP tests fine and the server's IP are set to white list senders and have relay permissions?

Thoughts?

Can you try something else in DNN to generate an email.

EX: a forgotten password request, or create a new account and have the notify option turned on?
