Hi... I should follow up here as the issue I was having with performance turns out to be completely different then my assumptions with the SMTP posts. My issue turned out to be an endless loop with a copy of our Dynamic Forms 3.4 beta release (whoops :)). So... Right now we do have one user reporting email performance issues with the latest 5.4.4 but I am not sure if its isolated to their environment or not. -Chad

Chad,

We are going to perform a RAM upgrade on the server tonight afterhours and also install .NET 4.0 and see what happenes... I am hopping it is an issue with 3.5 SP1 and DNN 5.4.4

Not the the RAM has anything to do with this email issue - we are doing this only for a stablitlity and performace issue. From what I have been reading there seems to be issues with this version of DNN (5.4.4) and .NET's mail functions as pointed out earlier in this post... the Gemini issue.

The other problem in trying to find an answer is that you have so many different server setups... IIS6, IIS7, Various DNN versions from the inception of 5.4.0, to what windows updates have been applied...

In the end I can say this... until the version of DNN 5.4.4 was installed - these problems did not exist. Now there is an issue. Fingers are crossed! I will post my findings in the morning.

Still having issues... I have posted some more info in the CPU peg thread here:

 http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/F...

Again all of my DNN instances are on the same server... they all use the same settigns... why DNN 5.4.4 would cause issues is still making me lean toward a bug in DNN - that exploits some type of issue with my setup:
  • Win 2008 Server
  • .NET 3.5 SP1 and .NET 4.0
  • IIS7

Still wondering why this is happeneing... it is causing a lot of issues.

I should point out that we still have a several users reporting this error Message: System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted. at System.AppDomain.GetId() at System.Threading.Thread.get_CurrentCulture() at Go20(RegexRunner ) at System.Text.RegularExpressions.CompiledRegexRunner.Go() at System.Text.RegularExpressions.RegexRunner.Scan(Regex regex, String text, Int32 textbeg, Int32 textend, Int32 textstart, Int32 prevlen, Boolean quick) at System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Run(Boolean quick, Int32 prevlen, String input, Int32 beginning, Int32 length, Int32 startat) at System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.IsMatch(String input) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.HtmlUtils.IsHtml(String text) at DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.SendMail(String MailFrom, String MailTo, String Cc, String Bcc, String ReplyTo, MailPriority Priority, String Subject, MailFormat BodyFormat, Encoding BodyEncoding, String Body, List`1 Attachments, String SMTPServer, String SMTPAuthentication, String SMTPUsername, String SMTPPassword, Boolean SMTPEnableSSL) Source: We have not yet been able to determine the specifics on when they receive it and when they don't... I am curious in 5.5 if this function call is removed? -Chad

Chad are you saying this error happens in 5.4.4 and not in 5.5? Was a little confused by this last post. Curious as to what your findings are.
