My shared host had a DotNetNuke install package for 4.8.2. The install/configuration went smoothly and I am able to log in correctly.

However, I would like to upgrade it to 5.4.4 before doing any work on the site. In my reading here and in the upgrade section of the forum, the procedure for upgrading is not clear, do I just install the upgrade versions over the old files and then upgrade as installing new?

From what I read, I have to follow this upgrade path: current version ----> to 4.9.5 ----> to 5.2.3 ------> to 5.4.4 (after upgrading xml module) Is that correct?

I have already downloaded the files except for the xml upgrade.

Thanks, Carl

Carl, you are right, backup, stop your site and unzip all files from upgrade package into DNN installation folder hierarchically (or unzip locally and upload all files via FTP). If you can't stop the web site, set autoupgrade to false in web.config to prevent upgrade being triggered while you are uploading files. If autoupgrade is true, start the upgrade by calling /install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade.

Cheers from Germany,
