I'm sorry if this has already been address but I could not find it anywhere in the forums. I'm new to skinning and I'm using version 5.4.4. I've found several skinning tutorials so I can get my feet wet. The problem I have is when I parse and preview my skin, I get three content panes instead of the expected one.

I have my skin file in my Portals\_default\Skins\Elkview\skin.htm.

[MENU]
<div id="ContentPane" runat="server"> </div>

The three content panes are the same three (exact content) as the MinimalExtropy default skin.
Any idea as to why I'm getting three panes instead of one?

Thank you!

Hi Mike,

I don't know much about the html file approach to skinning (I use .ascx skin files) but it looks to me like you're mixing the two approaches. From your post the line '<div id="ContentPane" runat="server"> </div>' belongs in an ascx skin file, but you say your skinfile is called skin.htm. Try replacing it with the html token for a pane [CONTENTPANE] (I think).

Might be worth checking out Joe Brinkman's current blog series on skinning.

no, Rhys, this looks fine. Are there other elements in your HTML skin file with runat server?

No, that is the only element with runat.

I might have found my problem. I believe I'm using the default template and it has three panels on it.

To summarize from my blog series, it is perfectly legitimate to have panes which are defined as <div id="ContentPane" runat="server"></div> in the HTML version of the skin.  This file is parsed by the skinning engine during skin installation and converted into the appropriate ASCX file.  The ASCX file is the only version that is actually used at runtime.

As for the original issue, can you include the full source code for the skin.htm so I can review it and determine where the error is at? If you use the "Format Code Block" button on the toolbar when pasting your code in the forums, it will make sure it is formatted and easily readible.
