I'll check this again on the 5.5 release... which I'm pretty sure is due out in a few days? The main point of my post was that simply the act of upgrading from 4.9.5 to 5.4x immediately adds 50% unnecessary bloat to a typical page. For some people this might be a significant change that would need to be managed. I'll post back after checking 5.5, but I'm not holding my breath for any improvement. Rob

i hear this week maybe. They just released a new beta build yesterday. I read that the 5.5 code is supposed to be faster than 4.9.x

Yeah I read that with some interest when it was posted, but once one gets past the hype of the headline, the speed bump appears to be purely for the processing of human-friendly URLs... something that most people coming from 4.x likely won't have enabled anyway. As far as I can tell, it's still going to be slower, simply due to the bloat. Will be fun to check.

Its out. Let me know. I upgraded my site and it feels much faster. Release notes say the "Improved performance by updating Data Access Block."

FYI the data access block was recompiled using the .net 3.5 version of the compiler which is faster and more efficent than the 1.1 version is was compiled against (we were able to get a copy of the source to do this recompilation). The performance improvement was small, but due to the amount the block is used, a noticeable and welcome speed increase.
