Hello all,

What modules would accomplish the following?

A site where:

There are 2 different types, or classifications of users. (1) Candidates (2) Voters

Candidates should be required to register, logon and upload a picture of themselves, along with some personal info such as Name, Address, Phone, Hometown, State, Age, District/Region they wish to represent.

Voters should also be required to register, but with only a Name and email address. We want to allow voters to logon to vote no more than 1 time per day / per email or IP address.

Anonymous as well as registered users and candidates should be able to browse the list of candidates, which would display their picture along with Home Town, State, And Region.

My web hosting is at GoDaddy, and I'm not sure if this is true of all web hosts, or just G'ddy, but my DNN site is on a virtual directory, which apparently makes it not possible to *see* the DNN files. And therefore, I am unable to directly modify/customize any modules. All I can do is upload complete packages.

Any advice?

Mike

I doubt that the core modules or the registration system can do what you want however - you basically describe the survey module - use this ( the core or other free with source survey modules) as the basic starting point to building your voting module.

Candidates are taken care of under the dnn registration - allocate them to a role called say candidates. Voters don't need to be registered as the survey modules have their own ip filters built in.

If you can't program then I am sure that there would be some one out there that could modify the survey module without any great problems

This is one of the best things about DNN it is very easy to take a standard module and customise it to do a specific job that the orginial programmer never thought of doing.  To interface to the registered users cut and paste the code from the Users.ascx - replace the survey code that displays the questions with the display of the candidate users - votes keeping is already built in

You could also interface to the User Defined table module to keep the images etc of each candidate - thus you should not even have to add to or change the database.

John

Another way to do it which is probably faster then programing a module is to pick up a voting system in php or perl from one of the sites such as Hotscripts and run it in an iframe. Not as nice as having it as a module but still works.
