I tried upgrading to 5.4.4, I extracted to files to my root and tried to browse the root directory, I got this massage:
any help will be very much appreciated!!

Remove all files and child folders from the site's App_Code\XML folders to get your site operating again. Then, install the latest (4.5.3) version of the DotNetNuke XML module which you can download from http://dnnxml.codeplex.com. The earlier XML module versions are not compatible with DotNetNuke version 5.3.0 and above.
