Ok, let me rephrase here, what is the intentions behind the new localization support then? Is it to enable "standard asp.net localization support" thus making it possible to use localization with webcomponents like Telerik, which are not tailor made to fit DNN? Or is it another localization special just for DNN? Knowing this makes it a lot easier to test if it work or not.

Patrik, new features cover "content localization", there are no (intended) changes to static localization, i.e. localization of web controls.

 Content being like text entered in an Text/HTML module? Ie "user data"? But, what happened to the plans to support standard asp.net localization then, I thought that would be included in DNN 5.5 but maybe I am all wrong? That's something I really miss in DNN now, and I know I am not alone. Is it possible perhaps to make that work by modifying the:

<buildProviders>
        <remove extension=".resx" />

Or maybe a third party solution is prefered, I know there are a few? Any recommendations?

I am not aware of any announcements for asp.net localization support. There have been changes in 5.0 for future imporvements, but atm the only solution is provided by Brandon Haynes on Codeplex.
