Hi -

I've finally taken the plunge and I'm looking forward to exploring DNN for my CMS needs!

However, I've run into an odd install issue.  While running the Install Wizard for DNN 5.4.4 I have reached a roadblock.  On the "Configure Host Account" screen, under the "SMTP Server Settings" section, I have entered my external SMTP information using "basic" authentication with a valid username and password.  When I click "Next" I get the following error:

Host User Error:
The password must be at least 7 characters.

And here is where it gets wierd:  I receive the test message in my inbox.  Obviously, the process worked - but the error message returned is confusing.  Additionally, though I'm not convienced that it is related, the password just happens to be 8 characters long; so the error message is double confusing!

Any ideas on the cause for this?  Any ideas for a work around?  I'm running this locally for dev/evaluation purposes right now - SMTP capability isn't my highest priority.  I would just like to get DNN running so I can get my hands dirty, so to speak.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The error message refers to the length of the host user password not the SMTP password. Apparently when testing the SMTP configuration, page validation occurs resulting in the error message.

Thanks for the response!

So, where would I change this value?  Sorry, I am a newbie, and just need a little direction.

Thanks in advance!

OK so what did you do to resolve this? That page is asking for an email address for the host account. What emmail address? I entered my personal email account and it says it could not send email to xxxx@verizon.net. So thinking it wants something on the local machine I entered host@127.0.0.1 . Same response. So I don't know what it is looking for. It is not possible to get past this point in the wizard. It has now been 6 weeks and 40 working hours that I have been trying to install this. Now that I am so close I am not pleased at being stopped by something so seemly simple.
