Hi Sebastion,

I am aware vbc.exe is the vb compiler and should only run occassionally as needed, which is why it caught my eye.

As far as Windows event logs, that is the first place I looked, and no ASP.NET events, or any events are logged when I get this DNN error.

Also, I have hit "Update" on the site default language, gone into Language Settings and hit "Update" and saved the site settings again. No change.

I also have done the following:
Made a benign comment change to the "LanguageEditor.ascx.vb" to see if that forced the compiler to recompile. - NO
I changed the extension of the "LanguageEditor.ascx.vb" so it was no longer accessible, and this caused a new error to occur which clearly stated the "LanguageEditor.ascx.vb" file was missing. In addition, the vbc.exe compiler did not even run.

I feel like we are closer, but I just cannot put my finger on it, even with Process Monitor watching all file activity. However, after the above tests, it really seems to be something related to the vb file, or its dependencies on another file.

Is the compiled code cache something I can flush and cause the whole process to start over?

I just clicked on the link "Verify Language Resource Files" and got this report. Probably not a good thing, but is it possibly related to the problem? And what is it telling me? What do I look for?

I just installed that module on one of the other v5.5 sites. I get the same verification report, but it does not cause any editor error. So that appears to not be involved.

Rob, that's what I expected, I am still assuming some other module/skin/leftover from a previous version is intefering.

Cheers from Germany,

Hi Sebastion,

Even though I have spent a lot of time getting rid of leftover "junk" on this portal just to be able to upgrade to v5.5.0, I am willing to accept the probability there is still something "leftover" which is interfering. But at this time, I do not think it is any of the currently installed modules.

When I did my cleanup, I eliminated old files from the web site folders as well as orphaned SQL tables & SPROCS.

What would help me now is to get your sense of whether this is a web site file problem, or could it still be related to SQL tables and SPROCS?

Thank you.
