Can some-one please explain why, after each upgrade since the Telerik editor was added as the core HTML editor, EVERYTIME I upgrade to the next DNN version the editor breaks?!

This time,.. I started with a fesh install of DNN 5.4.4, built my portal with everything working fine Once I upgrade the portal to v5.5 (the latest MAJOR release, with many bug fixes...) the editor no longer works properly, ie. when I open an html module to edit, I can't see the 'design' or '<>html' buttons bottom left, I don't see the text 'Words:' or Characters:' bottom right, although I can see the numbers for each, and when I try to insert a picture none of the labels display on the buttons or tabs.

Each time in the past I've been at a stage where I can just blow the portal away and start with a fresh install of the latest version, which has always worked. This time I'm too far down the development path to do that as it involves re-createing about a dozen sub-portals..

So I would appreciate a definative resolution to this on going issue.

I have had this issue appear on three different server environments, (one development and two production)  so it's not my environment.

Currently the version of Telerik.Web.UI.dll in this installation is 2010.2.713.35.

This happens with IE 8, Firefox 3.6.8, Google Chrome 5, Safari 5, and OPera 10.6

Any help appreciated.

TIA

MartyNZ

The error you describe is related to localization of the Telerik editor. It happens when a site uses a non en-US locale. You must create the resource files (make a copy of the default resources and look to translate later). It makes no sense that an upgrade would overwrite those resource files if you already had them.

However, if you have this error, it is most likely that you have an other locale than en-US. Version 5.5.0 has some issues with localization. I personally reverted to 5.4.4 and wait for 5.5.1.

If you have a chance to test, I would look at things like the default language in my users profile and see what happens when I change that.

Thanks Marc.
That sounds like the issue, I'm using en-NZ. I'll look at it and let you know.

More information about adding locales to telerik can be found here:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/F...

I gues what happened is this: until now you have always been working in en-US, otherwise you would have noticed the shortcomming sooner. DNN 5.5.0 has an oddity with language selection. You can be in one locale while the static text comes in another one (from the preferred language settings). So, unknowingly you came into a localization you didn't use often.

When your telerik editor misses a language, it doesn't display static text. If you go in the popups (link, image mgr etc) the text will be missing but the buttons will still be there. The editor itself however also hides the HTML and Display buttons if there is no text. That confuses: it is no longer evident what the reason is.

I've just fallen foul of the same problem with v5.4.1. I had to disable the UK-English locale and revert to US-English. Not a show stopper in this case but an irritation nonetheless. [whinge] FCKEditor didn't suffer from this, so it seems the Telerik control is not yet a complete replacement for FCK. [/whinge]
