Beginner here with a startup question.  My DNN hosting company has provided a fixed IP and installed DNN 5.4.4 in the root at that IP. They have setup a host header so I can access the installation using http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, which takes me to a DNN "welcome" page with login, etc.

I need to build a site from scratch, but the "old" version of that site exists elsewhere.  I do not want to affect the existing site until the new site is built and we can re-point DNS to the fixed IP.

Problem is: how to add a portal and begin building content in that new portal. If I use a portal URL that does not exist, I can't seem to get to it in DNN.  If I use a portal URL that *does* exist (I have a couple "throw away" URL's from obsolete sites no longer active), DNN takes me to that site directly and I don't see any way to login and edit it.

Can someone advise how to create a portal that I can begin putting content into?  Thanks for any/all assistance.

If you have DNN install some place then you already have a portal that you can work with and edit.  I am not 100% sure what is going on.  But, it sounds like you might need to check out  the database table PortalAlias and change the HTTPAlias for your portal since you are changing the DNS.  You can also do this through Dotnetnuke via the Host Menu/ Portals.
