My site is set up on the C drive of my 2008 r2 server in the default WWW location which is C:\ intepub\wwwroot. I Have no problem with this. I would like to add a file upload module but I want the files to be placed on another drive on the server "D:\sharedfiles". I've  created a virtual folder named "shared" under "Portals/0/Offices"(I created the Offices folder via DNN earlier) in IIS that points to my D:\sharedfiles folder and gave it full permissions for the network service and iuser accounts. I changed the settings in IIS to be able to browse the directory and I am able to view this sharedfiles directory via the  IIS virtual directory (all I see at this point is a Web.config file that IIS put there.

The problem is that I can't see the virtual directory when I go into the portal ADMIN Tab à File Manager in DNN ver 5.4.x. I want to place all of the uploaded files in this D:\sharedfiles directory so that I don't risk filling my C drive.

Any idea how this is accomplished so I can see the virtual directory I created?

Thanks

there are 3rd party file management modules like DMX from www.bring2mind.net, which support storage outside the portal root, while DNN limits access to the dedicated portal subdirectory.

That's a good start.

I just downloaded the "Simple Download" module which works great, but when I point it outside the portal I get an error of
"You are trying to access a path ('D:\sharedfiles') outside the home directory path. This has been disallowed by the host." Looked for this option in the Host settings and Portal setting, but I'm not clear which one fixes this message.

Do you know if there is an upload module that also allows me to put files outside the portal?

Simple Download is a 3rd party module, please check the documentation and use support options provided by the developer / vendor. Thank you.
