Today I installed the new control panel without problems on one of my sites (version 5.4.4), but when I installed it on another site of mine (I believe version 5.4.0) I got the following error message and now can't access my site:

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: The file '/DesktopModules/oh/ControlPanel/RibbonBar.ascx' does not exist. ---> System.Web.HttpException: The file '/DesktopModules/oh/ControlPanel/RibbonBar.ascx' does not exist. at System.Web.UI.Util.CheckVirtualFileExists(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResult(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.ControlUtilities.LoadControl[T](TemplateControl containerControl, String ControlSrc) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectControlPanel() at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

I was wondering if you had a fix I could try on this, but bear in mind, I can't access the site, but I can access the root on my hosting panel. Otherwise perhaps just some suggestions on how to remove all of the files, etc. to restore my site to where it was. I have the site backed up, but I'll lose some of my data if I go this route.

Any help would be appreciated.

I resolved the problem by manually removing all of the files associated with the control panel from my root folder (I'm on shared hosting), then reinstalling everything manually. The panel now works fine, and so does the site. Thank you Oliver for your assistance. The the site Event Viewer showed that it was a successful install, although not all files were uploaded. It doesn't appear to be a Windows 7 security issue because the same zipped file successfully updated my other site prior to this, besides, it was not a local host install, but a shared hosting install. So, I don't know what caused the original problem, but taking care of things manually seems to have solved it. By the way, the optimized panel is really nice and I like the fact that the page doesn't need to refresh between each choice when installing modules.
