Hi Bill,

tested on both my live test site and my offline sites and works great on all no issues encountered for dnn 5.5 running on .net4.

Thanks very much for all your hard work and if you need a tester get in touch always happy to help and I have a lot of resources at my disposal.

Plus I notice the site that has been setup to show the gallery module off is not complete yet let me know if you need any help on that as well.

Thanks again
Paul

Paul,

Thanks for taking the time to test the DNN Gallery v 04.03.02 Beta under DNN 5.05.00 and ASP.Net 4.0. So far, no issues - only enhancement requests - have been reported so I'm encouraged to submit it to the DotNetNuke Release Tracker testing process by the end of next week.

Thanks also for your offer to more testing in the future. Now that I have the Gallery bug-fix upgrade and a new DNN Feedback module mostly off of my plate, I can begin concentrating on getting a team started on Gallery 5x which we'll be able to develop from concept to finish without the legacy code and design patterns of Gallery 4 to hinder us. In its first iteration it will employ Silverlight 4 for much of its presentation layer but will also be implemented on a framework that will be able to accept custom "plug-ins" or "providers" for its various data, upload/edit, and presentation functions. The first data source "provider" will be able to read the Gallery 4.x metadata and store it in the SQL database rather than the current xml files.

Regarding the dnngallery.com website, I'm not sure what plans it's owner has for it and whether the DNN gallery module project will be using it or setting up a different site for demo/testing. One of our team co-leads is currently looking into it. Thanks for reminding me about it as I need to change or take down the link to that site.

Thanks again bill for your prompt responses to my threads.

Its good to see some of the team responding to users as it does not always happen throughout DNN.
As I said before I am Happy to Help. Just to give you an Idea what I have at my disposal.

I have 3 Live servers all running DNN Customer Sites and Test Sites.
We have 2 Offline Test Servers.
I also have a basic programming knowledge and I tend to be better at finding faults than building apps or modules.
Languages I know are VB.net and html. A little Javascript and some Sql but not great on the SQL.
I have Approx 5 Hours a week I can set a side so If you know any other project leaders that need testers or help pass them my details.

The main thing in the Gallery I noticed is the watermark problem I mentioned.
Silver light is the direction a lot of people are going in these days but can you make sure that it has the plug-in detector in the module so if the user does not have silver light that it informs them what they are missing I have had a few modules made for me recently that use flash and silver light but when the user does not have these on there PC it does not do or say anything it just does not show up so I have had to get my development guys to address this.

My Personal site that I use to support IT based issues is
www.manctech.co.uk which is running DNN 5.5
I also have my web design Site which is not finished but is
www.palatinewebpartners.com
just in case you want to see what I can do.
Anyway I think I have waffled on long enough.
I forgot to mention I have been using DNN since about Version 2 and I have upgraded my sites as and when updates have become available.
Last but not least my email address is info@manctech.co.uk if you want to pass it to any of the other project leaders as I said now I have more free time I want to help DNN progress as it has helped me progress online over the past few years.

Thanks
Paul
P.s. sorry if I went on a bit its 1am here and I think I have had to much caffeine. lol

Just wanted to express my opinion on the comment about the use of Silverlight for the next major release of the Gallery module.

Are you saying that it is going to be Silverlight only?  If that is the case, I think that it is not a good idea.  Many government, military, and business environments disallow the users from installing anything on their computers and since not many use Silverlight at all, it is not in their basic desktop configurations.  This will prevent the use of the Gallery module for those users.

I can understand why the developers would like to use Silverlight but I can also understand that you can make a fully capable Gallery module without Silverlight using standard HTML and Javascript.  Silverlight is very cool and powerful but it does not have the reach and penetration MS would have liked.

The Gallery module has had its ups and downs throughout its history for one reason or another, I've been there, and many users new and old have resorted to other solutions to satisfy the need for a good, usable, picture gallery.  I guess that practice will continue in the future.
