It's a common question, and there are a number of different ways you can upgrade DotNetNuke.

Please visit the DotNetNuke Wiki page for Upgrading DotNetNuke for instructions on how to upgrade.

Also, remember, it is a Wiki, you can add content to the page if you want! Go for it!

DNN 3 has reorganized its namespaces, i.e. DNN 2 modules need to be modified for continuing to run. If it is a heavily customized site, I suggest considering a relaunch with a new DNN 5.6 site, making use of new core features and available 3rd party extensions as well as an up2date skin producing valid markup, and move over content - at least the part which is still valid.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Some one mistakenly tired to use WPI to upgrade our site from 5.5.0 to 5.5.1 the install failed.  I successfully upgraded us following Chris's method above and we ran great for a month.

After a forced server restart we have the following error:

Locally, the browser is in website.com/Install/InstallWizard.aspx

Thanks for any help, our site is completely down.

Christian
