from DNN 7.4.2, I suggest upgrading to 8.0.4 and subsequently to 9.0
Please be aware that there are known issues regarding the upgrade, which should be fixed in DNN 9.0.1 or 9.0.2.

Well after finding nothing on this I tried upgrading step by step. Dont know why no one mentions this. Now I have successfully upgraded to 7.4.2.

Keith (or anyone), can you please try to outline what you did to get the upgrade to work?

I tried the same upgrade a year back, failed for a couple weeks then just gave up.

On my test server at home, I was able to get the upgrade to work. But our actual site is running on GoDaddy. The files/pages copy over, but the sql scripts fail. From what I remember it was very similar to what you described.

Edit: It might seem its a hosting issue, but I have upgrade on Godaddy up to 7.0.6... without issue. In "Host Settings on TestServer, my permission are: ReflectionPermission, WebPermission, AspNetHostingPermission" On GoDaddy, it's only: WebPermission. Does that matter?

 Thanks.

Hello,

Is there an upgrade path from  07.02.00 (607) to 9?

I tried going straight to 9 but have run into one problem after another. So far Ive been able to fix but now have found that functionality is completely missing.

ie the Tab table had 97 records in 7.02 but after the upgrade it has 91 records.

eg Page Management is missing altogether. (tabid 68 "Pages" does not exist in the v9 Tab database).

Is it easier to do a new install of 9 and start again from scratch?

or are we better off staying on 7.02?

Thanks

Robert

It should be easy upgrading to 7.4.2 - and this upgrade is advisable due to a number of fixes and improvements.
For an upgrade to DNN 8 (precisely 8.0.4), please first make sure, the new version is supported by all 3rd party modules (and skins and providers) installed, due to compatibility issues.
ATM, I wouldn't upgrade to DNN 9 due to known issues. You should at least wait for DNN 9.1.0, which has been announced to be focusing on upgrading sites as well.

According to the DNN Security Center there are now 4 vulnerabilities listed as impacting 8.0.4 which we just upgraded to. The listed fix for all of them is upgrade to 9.0.1 but you're recommending we wait until DNN 9.1.0 because of upgrade issues. Shouldn't there be a 8.0.5 release then to resolve these if we're not supposed to upgrade to 9 yet?
