The E-commerce module is looking great.  I think it is finally beginning to be a viable option for small stores.  What I really need to know is if there is a way to expire the role when it is added?  It would be great if a user bought a service and you could add the role for say 180 days or if you enter 0 it could be added indefinitely.  This would significantly improve the viability of the module.  If this is already available please let me know where the setting can be found.

Hi Dave,

From the Store module version 02.01.32 you can select a role in each product. When a customer is buying this product, his user account is added to the selected role after the payment. If the order is canceled, the user account is removed from the corresponding role of each product purchased.
On the other hand, I agree with you than such feature (period management) could be usefull. I will look at this to add it in the next beta version.

It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Hi Gilles,

I really like the idea of expiring roles and wondered if you still plan to include this in an upcoming release. Expiring the roles would allow the selling of services and video content, etc (such as instructional videos) with access for a limited time only.

Less important but still worth mentioning is to consider a slight change in wording of the drop downs in the store catalog to make the catalog more "service" friendly.  For example, the word "Manufacturer" is more typically associated with hard goods whereas the word "Supplier" is a more universal.  Equally, changing "Model Number" to "Item Number" and "Model Name" to "Item Name" would be more service friendly.  Of course, this is a minor suggestion and is not meant be critical of the great work already done.

Thanks.

Hi Don,

This feature has been introduced in the release 02.01.39, this post is a little bit old! :-)

Concerning field names, I will change them in a future version but not the next because this require a lot of work to change all references in tables and classes. In the meanwhile, if you want you can change the field labels using the DNN Language Editor.

Donald, do you think that it would be usefull to change to wording in the standard resource files that are shipped with Store, without changing the names in the database (which is a breaking change for those who wrote custom procedures, etc).

Or would it just add to much confusion to have field labels different than database labels? (note that this is the case in other languages anyway so the confusion would mainly be for english users)

You might consider sending your suggested resource file to Gilles for inclusion into the package, but before that maybe you might open a new thread in this forum for discussion about these proposed change with other english speakers
